“Consumers and small businesses complain that problems with parcel delivery, in particular high delivery charges in cross-border shippings, prevent them from selling or buying more across the EU.”
Last week the European Union set about creating a number of measures to create a single online marketplace for Europe, with fairer and more equal pricing for those buying online from different countries. One such proposal sets about increasing transparency of pricing for cross-border parcel delivery services to encourage the single online market. A study by the European Commission found that “many consumers who had considered buying online but then abandoned the idea, did so because of the high delivery price. Lower prices for cross-border delivery were very likely to make them buy online.”

Prices charged by postal operators to deliver a small parcel to another Member State are often up to 5 times higher than domestic prices, without a clear correlation to the actual costs.
The piece goes on to state that “The Regulation proposed today will increase price transparency and regulatory oversight of cross-border parcel delivery services so that consumers and retailers can benefit from affordable deliveries and convenient return options even to and from peripheral regions”
These steps will ensure that the parcel industry gives consumers the confidence of purchasing in a single European marketplace, with set and fair prices. With international parcel traffic already increasing at double the rate of domestic these encouraging measures should see parcel’s crossing our borders at ever increasing rates.

Similar to the increased transparency in pricing across European delivery companies, Parcelive offers complete transparency on the location and condition of your parcel no matter its country. As more and more parcel’s cross borders and travel through multiple carriers during their journey, having a live look into the parcel will become increasingly important to those shipping at scale.
